Greene King Gift Card breach – May 2019

On the 14th May 2019, British pub chain, Greene King, announced that its gift card website (https.//www.gkgiftcards.co.uk) had been targeted by hackers. This attack resulted personal details of customers being compromised. The information included:

  • names
  • email addresses
  • user IDs
  • encrypted passwords
  • addresses
  • postcode
  • gift card numbers

Although Greene King have not confirmed how many people were affected by this breach, emails have been sent out to those who are believed to have been effected. Whilst no bank details or other payment information were accessed by the hackers, representatives from the pub chain have stressed the need for those effected to be wary of phishing attempts, as criminals may try contacting victims in order to gain access to more of their personal information.

Greene King have reported this matter to the ICO, but have not yet offered any compensation for those who have had their personal data compromised.

If you’ve received an email from Greene King concerning this data breach, or have been effected by a similar breach, then get in touch today to find out if you could be due compensation.
